Principal / COO / Secretary
With over 35 years of experience in the field of architecture, Jim Theiss is QKA’s COO/Secretary, one of six principals and head partner of the Construction Administration department. Prior to joining QKA in 2000, Jim specialized in multi-family residential, worship and retail facilities; however, he soon realized his passion for designing educational spaces, finding it a privilege to be able to create environments that inspire, enhance the community and create positive school memories for students. Building upon his experience in the construction industry, Jim also developed and ran a non-profit that offered hands-on construction training via renovation projects to cultivate employment skills for its participants.
Jim currently serves as principal for numerous comprehensive campus projects at QKA, utilizing his years of experience, clear communication and ability to resolve challenges collaboratively. He is a former board member of the American Institute of Architects Redwood Empire Chapter (AIARE), where he spearheaded the AIARE Leadership Development program that included: introducing leadership concepts, creating personal development plans and facilitating networking opportunities.
In his free time, Jim enjoys spending time with his family and participating in outside activities such as mountain biking, backpacking, camping and fly fishing. Additionally, he is passionate about his church and has served on the leadership teams of several Christian organizations.
