Peninsula High School
New Alternative High School Campus
Far from resources and suffering from a lack of public transportation, a decision was made to relocate Peninsula High School from its former site and develop a new campus to encourage enrollment and provide equitable access to the school’s student body. Strategically located near the school’s student base, public transportation and hands-on learning and career opportunities, the new location mitigates these issues while providing a beautiful new two-story learning environment.
Delivered via modular construction, the new alternative high school campus features eight standard classrooms, science and culinary lab space, counseling and administrative offices and a multi-use room with a snack bar. Campus buildings surround a courtyard area which provides space for outdoor teaching, gathering and dining. The school’s two-story construction took advantage of vertical space, leaving room available for a sizeable sports area for basketball, soccer, yoga and the school’s physical education curriculum.
The project includes interior finishes with low VOCs as well as energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems, low flow plumbing fixtures, natural daylighting and natural ventilation.
