BIM Manager

We’re looking for a BIM Manager to improve the expertise, efficiency, and capabilities of all members of QKA’s team in using Revit and assisting with the office transition from ArchiCAD to Revit. This role will coordinate and work in conjunction with the BIM Committee and other resources to complete these responsibilities and report to the Director of Practice

 

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position and the salary range is $90(k) to $125(k). Compensation for this role is based on experience, job-related knowledge/education, qualifications and work location (Oakland or Santa Rosa). Flexible, hybrid schedule available (24 hours/week working in the office), but full remote work (work from home) is not available.


Typical Responsibilities

Transition management and development of BIM standards

  • QKA is currently using ArchiCAD software but has decided to switch to Revit. The BIM Manager will be a crucial part of the team guiding the transition and developing Revit standards for QKA. QKA is looking for an experienced and forward-looking leader to help shape the future of the firm.
  • Collaborate with an outside consultant to develop Revit templates, BIM standards, guidelines, and custom tools used by QKA production teams for BIM and related project workflows and deliverables.
  • Work closely with the beta test project team and Director of Practice to develop standards specific to the firm’s workflow.
  • Cultivate a positive optimistic outlook regarding change, and the use of BIM software.

 

Internal BIM Standards for Workflow – Maintenance and Oversight

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement BIM standards, guidelines and custom tools used by the production team for BIM-related project flows and deliverables with direction from Director of Practice.
  • Create the BIM execution plan template. Guide project teams in developing project-specific plans.
  • Research software features and custom tools within the framework of QKA’s needs and typical practice with the goal of better-utilizing software tools to improve efficiency and work quality. Lead implementation, adoption, and integration into existing flow workflows.
  • Maintain Revit template for the office and update as new software versions are released.
  • Actively coordinate with Project Teams to ensure continuity, consistency, and quality of project BIM files and drawing output through regular QC model checks.
  • Work with Sustainability Lead to develop tools related to sustainability performance tracking on projects.
  • Provide development and maintenance of Revit library and families.

 

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Maintain strong relationships within the office, prioritizing collaboration and effective communication.
  • Participate in project BIM coordination meetings as needed to advise the project team on BIM-related issues/solutions for the project team.
  • Coordinate and lead the BIM Committee to develop and maintain BIM standards and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource for questions regarding Revit and how it relates to other software.

 

Training and Mentorship

  • Grow and expand the BIM expertise and capability of all QKA production staff to improve document quality and workflow efficiency.
  • Maintain BIM training standards and materials for new employees and continue the education of existing employees.
  • Guide and encourage the Junior and Intermediate BIM experts and provide constructive feedback on their work.
  • Actively support the development of the internal BIM community knowledge-sharing.
  • Organize and conduct training sessions regularly to promote BIM best practices.

 

Software Maintenance

  • Coordinate with in-house IT professionals for licensing installation and management of BIM software.
  • Lead the implementation of add-ons and plugins for Revit and related software.
  • Review, test, and incorporate new version releases and customization.

 

These responsibilities are typical but are not all-encompassing. Each person is expected to work collaboratively in a team environment and assist as required to deliver a quality product on schedule, within the project budgeted hours provided.


Knowledge and Experience
  • Completion of a professional degree in architecture or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8 plus years’ experience in architecture or related field. Demonstrated professional experience in applying and developing digital tools and processes to architectural project work, including experience in authoring various building projects at large and small scales in Revit.
  • Demonstrated expertise and/or certification in Revit and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Familiarity with ArchiCAD would be helpful but not required.
  • Experience evaluating additional software (SketchUp, Grasshopper, Rhino Lifecycle Cost Analysis tools, etc.) and integrating them into efficient Revit workflow.
  • Expert ability to prepare, document, present technical concepts and information clearly and succinctly. Demonstrated ability to create engaging visual communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architectural design and documentation at all project phases.
  • Self-motivated to explore capabilities and features of the software and identify ways in which they may benefit QKA’s workflow.
  • Good organizational skills to manage complex information and balance multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills to work with and teach employees at different experience levels in a collaborative and constructive manner.
