Hatch Elementary School

New Kindergarten Classroom Buildings

Half Moon Bay, CA

Replacing outdated portable classrooms, Hatch Elementary School’s three new kindergarten classroom buildings provide modern spaces designed to encourage cooperative learning. Each of the five classrooms includes teacher workspaces and breakout spaces for individualized attention. The buildings also include flex spaces that can be utilized by the entire school community.

The three one-story buildings surround a central outdoor play area that includes a playground specific to this age group, as well as outdoor learning environments that support progressive instruction. Prioritizing time, cost and sustainability, while still allowing for flexibility and adaptation, QKA’s own prefabricated building solution Folia was used for the project.

Making a Difference
Designed for this specific and formative grade level, Hatch Elementary School’s new kindergarten facilities give students and teachers modern indoor and outdoor spaces to learn and play. The buildings’ additional flex spaces are accessible to the entire school community.
“The new kindergarten facility has far exceeded our expectations! These new buildings are beautifully designed, and we are very thankful. QKA has been an instrumental partner to us.”
