Master Planning for Eight K-8 Schools
Ravenswood City School District
East Palo Alto, Calif.
- Number of Schools: 8
- Completion Date: April 2015
With the goal of transitioning its existing eight K-8 school campuses into four neighborhood K-5 schools with onsite preschools, one comprehensive middle school, and maintaining a popular dual immersion K-5 school and Child Development Center, the Ravenswood City School District required a clear Facilities Master Plan (FMP) to guide facilities decision-making. To develop the FMP for each location, preparatory meetings were held in coordination with District staff, as well as parents and community members, and included bilingual meetings at each school site.
Facility assessments were conducted, focusing on infrastructure, utility upgrades and the existing facilities’ abilities to meet the needs of the District’s current and future goals. The needs identified in the assessments were utilized to create a comprehensive FMP for each school.
Following the development of the school-specific FMPs, the District was provided with cost estimates of the proposed improvements and worked to develop phasing plans for the improvements to balance the needs at each site with the projected funding availability, logistical concerns and enrollment projections. Together these components provide the District with the information to make the best facilities decisions for the students, teachers and communities at each school, ultimately creating the educational environments that fulfilled its goals.
All students have the ability to achieve academic success. RCSD will work collaboratively to create a quality instructional program which empowers students to make choices, achieve their personal best, be college bound, and productive responsible participants in a 21st century global society.Ravenswood City School District (RCSD)
