San Mateo County, CA
The Jefferson Elementary School District serves a diverse student population of 5,900 in Daly City and Colma in San Mateo County. Their active schools were mostly constructed in the 1940’s and 1950’s. Although well maintained, the many years of intense use and the corrosive marine environment had taken its toll on many of the buildings. The District selected QKA to perform a detailed assessment of the 14 school sites and the District Office to identify their facilities modernization needs and guidance for the planning of future facilities projects. In addition to improved daylighting and natural ventilation, an important focus of this assessment was identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and generate renewable energy to reduce the energy use of each campus including identifying locations for future solar arrays.
