Master Planning for Junior High and High School
Healdsburg Unified School District
Healdsburg Unified School District (HUSD) sought needed updates to its arts, athletics and agriculture facilities at Healdsburg High School and Healdsburg Junior High School. Following a collaborative process that included frequent meetings with district administration and teachers, community organizations and City of Healdsburg representatives, QKA was able to determine the most pressing facilities’ needs for each campus in the Facilities Master Plan (FMP).
With the District’s and community’s goals in mind, the plan for both campuses meets the need for all-season athletic programs, including modernization of gymnasiums and locker rooms. Specifically, the FMP includes an all-weather track and field facility, additional gymnasium and new auditorium to accommodate up to 300 students. The high school’s plan included new agricultural science spaces, including outdoor areas comprised of gardens, orchards and livestock for the high school. The plan for the junior high school requires modernization and new construction of interior and exterior athletic facilities, renovating music instruction facilities, and new STEM classrooms. The FMP also informed HUSD of necessary technological upgrades in support of its curriculum emphasizing college and career readiness.
Preparation of the thorough and informative FMP aided in the successful passing of Measure D, a $67 million general obligation bond to fund school renovations and new construction. With the needed available funding, QKA and the District moved into project design.
