Master Planning for Three High Schools
Fremont Union High School District
Cupertino and San Jose, Calif.
- Number of Schools: 3
- Completion Date: August 2013
QKA worked closely with diverse stakeholder groups at Cupertino, Homestead and Lynbrook High Schools to develop a Facilities Master Plan (FMP) for each campus, with a goal of accommodating significant enrollment growth and an evolved 21st Century learning curriculum. Throughout this process the team worked closely with a dedicated site committee at each school comprised of district representatives, the principal, vice principals and lead teachers.
Although there were many different needs identified at each of the three campuses, common themes also emerged. All needed a stronger sense of entry and connection to the community to give each school an established identity. At each campus, it was also important to renovate outdoor and indoor spaces to create an environment that better supports students by providing a variety of formal and informal learning environments while making community and district services more accessible.
In addition to meeting with the stakeholders at each school, a Facilities Assessment performed at each campus was focused on infrastructure and utility needs as well as the ability of the existing facilities to meet the needs of the Fremont Union High School District’s (FUHSD) current and future educational goals. The needs identified in this assessment were combined with the input received from each community to create the comprehensive FMP.
